Sorry, Schubert!

By Clare

I just went through the videos in my phone, and I just realized I haven’t posted how we filmed arriving at Schubert’s in the Happy Birthday, Schubert video! I have been meaning to do this!

So I wanted to use a cabin kind of wooden door as Schubert’s door for the end of the story for when we arrive at Schubert’s place and knock on the door, and no one answers so we leave the cake at the door. So the requirements of the door are: 1. I wanted this door to be wooden and have a cabin kind of feel. 2. the door has to be able to open for “Schubert’s hand” to come out from it to grab the cake…… As we were driving to the forest for the running footages, we saw this public washroom in the woods that was cute AND fits all the requirements for the wooden door that we have been looking for. But…it’s a PUBLIC WASHROOM😂😂….. We can’t do that to Schubert! (Or can we?!) We just felt so horrible to Schubert, so we decided to keep looking. Since we were still in the filming process, we figured we still had time until we finish editing most of the video. So we decided to keep thinking of possibilities!

But when I pretty much finished editing most of the video, we still couldn’t come up with a good place with a wooden door that can pass for Schubert’s place. We drove around some farms, parks, lakes, barns….any place that we could think of that might have a suitable door for us to do this two-second shot. It was already Wednesday (we were releasing the video the next day), and I had to start teaching from 3pm until the evening, and it was already 12:30pm. So we decided…sorry, Schubert…we were going to have to borrow the door of that public washroom! But I promise I’d make Schubert’s place look nice in the video! So we rushed to the public washroom!

It was raining lightly (luckily not too hard!), and the lighting looked similar to the day when we did the forest running footage. So all of that was lucky! I had planned out the shots before we got there, so it was very efficiently done. That two-second shot took us a little under half hour, and we were out of there! We were also lucky that no one was there except one older couple who needed to use the washroom. We were in the middle of filming so we didn’t notice that they wanted to use the washroom. It was only afterwards I realized they took turns using the women’s side! (Oops, sorry! And thanks for the consideration!)

So after that we rushed home to film the last part where Schubert opened the cake to find that it was partially taken by the monster! And we finished right at 2:55pm, when I quickly got ready to teach at 3pm!

We are cool! 😎😎

(Actually, I found more behind-the-scenes footages from filming Happy Birthday, Schubert. Should I compile them and make a behind-the-scenes video of it?!)

Check out our behind-the-scenes stories post on how we filmed Happy Birthday, Schubert!
